Damilola Ogunbiyi is the first female Managing Director of Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA). She is responsible for Implementing the Nigerian Off Grid Electrification Programme and the Nigerian Electrification Project which is a $550m facility to rapidly deploy solar mini grids and solar home systems across Nigeria. She is also responsible for the Energizing Education Program to provide electricity to 37 federal universities and the Energizing Economies Initiative providing sustainable power to markets. Mrs Ogunbiyi drives gender inclusion activities in the REA and energy sector. Prior to these roles, she was the first female General Manager of the Lagos State Electricity Board. Under her leadership, five independent power projects were completed to deliver over 55 megawatts of power to public utilities. Mrs. Ogunbiyi is one of the Commissioners for the Global Commission to end energy poverty which is an initiative driven by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)/ Rockefeller Foundation.
